The Gathaithi Cooperative is located in the central highlands of Kenya, between the Mount Kenya and the Aberdale Mountains. It is about 160 kilometres north of Nairobi. The cooperative was established in 2000 and currently has 1,542 members.
It is 1650 metres above sea level. Main coffee varieties include SL34, SL28 (accounting for 90%), Batian and Ruiru11. The Gathaithi Cooperative was originally part of the Giant Tetu Coffee Farmers Society and was established independently in 2000. They take advantage of the harvest of the previous year.
They divide funds to provide members with tuition prepayment, farm inputs and emergency needs funds. By paying high returns to producers, the Gathaithi Cooperative has established a transparent relationship based on trust with small farmers to support the sustainable industrial growth of the whole country and raise the standards of high-quality coffee in Kenya.
Coffees are roasted every Sunday and shipped on Monday.
