Safo Station was formerly known as Alo Main Station. The word 'Safo' means “foundation” or “beginning” as it serves as the core processing station of Alo Coffee, located in the Bensa district of Ethiopia’s Sidama region. This high-altitude processing centre represents the origin and main base of Alo Coffee, and has long been recognised for its rigorous processing methods and exceptional quality control.

This Zero Fermentation Washed coffee is grown by smallholder farmers in Faficho Village. At Safo Station, the coffee is processed using a unique zero-fermentation washed method. Before the washing process, specialised equipment is used to thoroughly remove the skin, pulp, and mucilage, avoiding the traditional fermentation stage commonly used in washed processing. This allows the coffee beans to continue the remaining processing stages without fermentation.
