Within just one year, Alo Coffee achieved the outstanding accomplishment of winning first place in the 2021 Ethiopia Cup of Excellence (COE) competition, marking an important milestone in gaining well-deserved recognition and better returns for hardworking coffee farmers. Tamiru has a deep understanding of the challenges faced by smallholder farming families in Sidama Bensa, which inspired the establishment of Alo Coffee. Beyond adding greater value to coffee cherries, the company plays a key role in bridging the knowledge gap by continuously sharing expertise in agronomy, cultivation practices, farm management and harvesting techniques with coffee growers. At the same time, Alo Coffee takes a holistic approach by supporting the overall wellbeing of local communities through development projects, such as building schools.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eThis coffee comes from the Mewa Processing Station in West Arsi, operated by Tamiru, located only a few hours away from Sidama Bensa. After one year of operation, the processing team has become more skilled and experienced, which is reflected in the coffee’s refined and delicate flavours. Whether processed as washed or natural, the coffees from Mewa demonstrate exceptional elegance, complexity and depth.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eDuring a visit to Nensebo, various coffee varieties captured our attention. Although many of the old-tree varieties have not yet been officially certified, their flavour performance has been outstanding. Their goal is to build deeper collaboration with local producers and further optimise processing methods.
